Dead Format has a community-built database of physical record stores from all over the world. Find stores near you, favorite the ones you love, tag them in your posts, and help us grow the database by submitting stores we're missing.
Browsing stores
Open the menu on your home feed and tap Record stores. The hub has two tabs:
- Discover - your favorite stores, the store of the week, popular stores, stores buzzing with recent posts, and recently added stores.
- Browse - find stores by location. Tap Stores near me to search around your current location, or browse by country and city.
When browsing near a location you can adjust the search radius and sort by Closest, Most popular, or A-Z.
Searching
Tap the search box at the top of the hub to search the whole database by name, city, state, or country. Search is worldwide - if you want stores around you specifically, use Stores near me on the Browse tab instead.
Store pages
Every store has its own page with its address, website, favorite count, and a feed of every post the community has tagged there - browse it as a list or a photo grid, sorted by Recent or Top. Tap the address to copy it or open it in your maps app, and use the share icon to send the store's link to a friend.
Favoriting stores
Tap the heart on any store to add it to your favorites. Your favorites show up at the top of the Record stores hub and on the Stores tab of your profile, so other collectors can see which shops you love. Your profile also shows the stores you've tagged in posts.
Tagging a store in your post
Found something good? When creating a post, tap Tag a record store to attach the store, then choose how you got the record: Bought here, Mail order, or Visited. The store appears right on your post, and your post shows up on the store's page for others to discover.
Submitting a new store
If we're missing a store, we'd love to know about it! Tap the Submit a new store icon at the top of the hub (you'll also see a Can't find a store? Submit a new one link under search results). Send us whatever you have - name, address, website - and our team will review it. Heads up: the database is for physical stores only. You'll get a notification once it's been added.
Fixing store info
Spot a wrong address or a store that's closed down? Open the store's page, tap the ... menu, and choose Suggest an edit. Pick a reason, tell us what should change, and we'll take care of it.
