Sharing on Dead Format is simple: snap some photos of a record, tell us about it, and post. This guide covers everything you can attach to a post.
Starting a post
From your home feed, tap the What are you spinning? What'd you find? box at the top (or the + button in the feed's top bar). Every post needs at least one photo or video and a caption - this is a record collecting app, we want to see the records!
Adding photos and videos
Tap the media area to choose from your library or take a photo right in the app. You can attach multiple photos to a single post, reorder them by dragging, and crop or adjust each one in the media editor. You can also pick a display shape for your post's media: original, square, portrait, or landscape.
You can also upload videos - up to 2 minutes each, or up to 5 minutes with Dead Format Pro. Video posts publish right away and finish uploading in the background, so you don't have to sit and watch a progress bar.
Post types
Under What's this post about? you can optionally label your post with a type: Now spinning, Pickup, Mail day, Collection update, or Looking for. The label appears on your post in the feed so people know what they're looking at.
If there's a Vinyl Challenge running, you'll also see the day's challenge here - tap it to make your post today's entry (see Joining the monthly Vinyl Challenge). A post can be a challenge entry or have a post type, but not both.
Tagging
You can attach a few extras to any post:
- Tag a record in your collection - search your collection by artist, title, or catalog number. Tagged records appear on the post, and anyone can tap through to see them.
- Tag a record store - perfect for sharing where you found something. The store shows on your post and links to its page.
- Add a song preview - search for any song and attach a 30 second preview, powered by Apple Music. A post can have a song or a video, but not both.
Who can see it
Posts are visible to everyone on Dead Format by default. If you'd rather keep one just for yourself, tap Who can see this? and choose Only me.
Editing and deleting
Made a typo? Open your post's ... menu and choose Edit post to change the caption, type, tags, or audience, and remove or reorder media. Delete post removes it permanently - that one can't be undone.
