Spins are your listening diary on Dead Format - a record of every time you play something from your collection. Log a spin when you drop the needle, keep notes on your listens, and if you're a Last.fm user, scrobble the whole record automatically.
Logging a spin
Open any record in your collection and tap Spin this. You can add an optional note about the listen, and that's it - tap Log this spin and it's in your history.
Spins are logged at the moment you play, and a spin is separate from posting - if you also want to share it on the home feed, flip on Create a Home feed post and the composer opens with the record tagged and your note carried over as a Now spinning post.
Can't decide what to play? Shake your phone on the Collection tab (or tap the dice icon) and the record randomizer will pick one for you.
Your spin history
Open the Collection menu and tap Spin history to see your full listening diary: spins this month and all time, your listening streak, most played artists and albums, and insights based on your recent listening. Every record's own page also shows how many times you've spun it.
Long-press any spin to add or edit its note, or delete it.
Who can see your spins
Your spins appear on the Spins tab of your profile, visible to anyone who can see your profile. If you'd rather keep your listening history to yourself, turn off Show my spins in Settings > Privacy - your history stays private, and you can keep logging as usual.
Scrobbling to Last.fm
Connect your Last.fm account and your spins can scrobble automatically. Open the Collection menu, tap Last.fm, then Connect to Last.fm - you'll sign in on Last.fm's site, and we never see your password.
Once connected, a few things to know:
- When you log a spin, you can scrobble the whole record or just one side.
- Scrobble timing is up to you: Send in order starting now scrobbles each track as the record plays, while Already played, in the past sends every track right away, as if the record just finished. Set a default on the Last.fm screen and change it for any single spin.
- We find the tracklist automatically as long as your record has a valid artist and title. If we can't find a tracklist for a record, the spin still logs - it just won't scrobble.
The Last.fm screen shows your recent spins and whether each one scrobbled. Scrobbling is currently in beta, so if you run into bugs or incorrect track matches, please contact support.
Disconnecting
Tap Disconnect Last.fm on the Last.fm screen anytime. New spins stop scrobbling, anything already scrobbled stays on your Last.fm profile, and your Dead Format spin history is untouched.
