This guide walks you through importing your record collection using a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file. This feature allows you to quickly import collections from various sources like Discogs, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet program that can export CSV files.
File Format Requirements
- File must be saved as .csv format
- Maximum file size: 10MB
- First row must contain column headers (such as Artist, Title, Pressing, etc.)
Tips for Discogs Users
When exporting from Discogs, your file may contain more information than needed. Consider cleaning up your CSV file before importing by removing any items that you don't want to be part of your collection. Please check the preview before pressing the final import button to make sure everything will display as intended.
Importing Your Collection
- Head to the Collection Import page
- Upload your CSV file
- Set the destination section (Collection or Want List)
- Choose the category where your imported items will go
- Build your custom format using the field mapper
- Review the preview and confirm the import
Building Your Format
The format builder is a powerful tool that lets you customize how your collection items will display:
- Drag and drop fields from the available options into the format builder
- Add custom text, spaces, and punctuation between fields
- Rearrange fields by dragging them to different positions
- Remove unwanted fields by deleting them from the builder
Formatting Tips
- Empty fields will be automatically removed from the final output
- Parentheses (), brackets [], and other punctuation around empty fields will also be removed
- You can add dashes, commas, or other separators between fields for better readability
Preview Your Import
Before completing the import, you'll see a preview of how your items will appear:
- The preview shows the first 10 items from your CSV file
- This lets you check if your format looks right before finalizing
- If something doesn't look right, adjust your format and check the preview again
After Importing
Once your items are imported, you can:
- Edit individual items
- Upload photos (up to 10 photos per item for Pro users)
- Move items between categories
- Add a private note to any entry
- Set items as for sale or trade (Pro users only)
