If your collection lives in a spreadsheet, you can bring it into Dead Format with a CSV file. Heads up: if your collection is on Discogs, use the direct Discogs connection instead - it's much easier and keeps things in sync. See Importing your collection from Discogs.
Preparing your file
Any spreadsheet program can export a .csv file. The first row should contain column headers (like Artist, Title, Label), and each row below it becomes one item in your collection. You can include columns for artist, title, label, catalog number, format, variant, pressing, release year, media and sleeve condition, and notes - include as many or as few as you have.
Importing
Open your Collection tab, tap the menu, and choose Import .csv file. Then:
- Tap to choose your CSV file and upload it.
- Pick where the items should go - your collection or want list, and which category.
- Match each detail to a column from your file - tell us which column holds the artist, which holds the title, and so on. Anything you don't need can be left empty.
- Check the preview to make sure everything looks right, then tap Import.
When it finishes you'll see how many items were imported and how many were skipped.
After importing
Your items work like any others in your collection - edit them, move them between categories, add photos and private notes. Cover art isn't part of a CSV file, but you can have us find it for you: open the Collection menu and tap Find missing cover art.
