Dead Format automatically manages all sales tax for U.S. orders so you don't have to. As a registered Marketplace Facilitator, we calculate, collect, and remit the correct amount of state and local sales tax on every order.
This policy applies only to U.S. orders - sellers outside the U.S. are responsible for their own tax obligations.
How sales tax works
For U.S. sales, tax is automatically added at checkout based on the buyer's location, item price, and shipping cost. The total appears in the buyer's order summary, and you'll see the breakdown in your own order details and downloadable reports.
Once collected, we handle sending those funds to the proper tax authorities - there's nothing you need to file or pay yourself.
What sellers should do
When listing items, keep your prices pre-tax. Don't include tax in your item price - it's automatically calculated and added at checkout.
Keep your address accurate in your account settings, since your location helps ensure the correct tax rates are applied.
Refunds and adjustments
When you issue a refund, sales tax is automatically adjusted - whether it's a full or partial refund, the proportional tax amount will be included.
