This guide walks you through everything you need to know to create and manage the records you have for sale on the Marketplace. Whether it's your first time or you're managing a full inventory, we’ll cover what’s required, what’s helpful, and tips to help your listings stand out and sell.
Filling out your listing details
Photos
You'll need at least one photo to make a listing active, and each listing supports up to 10 photos. We require that you upload legitimate photos of the item you're selling — that means no stock or placeholder images are allowed.
- Make sure you've got good lighting
- Include at the very least the front cover and the record itself
- Show close-ups of any damage or defects to the sleeve, inserts, or vinyl
Listing title
Use a clear, specific title that includes the artist and release name. Keep in mind that search results will include matches from the description field too, so if you can't fit everything in your listing title, you’ll have plenty of room in the description.
Description
Write out everything a buyer would want to know, providing as much detail as possible:
- Vinyl color or variant
- Pressing year or label info
- Jacket condition (creases, dings, tears)
- Any included inserts or extras
- Playback notes (e.g., skips, pops, warps)
Catalog numbers, barcodes, matrix runouts, etc. can be helpful too.
Condition
Use the Goldmine grading guide. Grade both the record and the jacket.
Price
Enter the price you'd like to sell the item for. The minimum is $1.00, and we'll show you the estimated fee breakdown for whatever price you enter. You can also enable offers, and optionally set a minimum offer amount (that's below your listed price).
Format and genre
Select one format (12", 10", 7", etc.) and at least one genre (e.g., pop, classical, punk). You can pick more than one genre if applicable to help buyers find your listing.
You can optionally add:
- Release type (LP, EP, compilation, etc.)
- Features (colored vinyl, gatefold, numbered, signed, etc.)
These fields aren’t required, but help listings stand out and show up in filtered searches.
Weight and shipping info
When listing an item, you'll need to provide accurate shipping details to ensure correct postage costs and prevent delivery delays. The system is designed to make this process straightforward, even for first-time sellers.
Step 1: Select your shipping format
First, choose the appropriate shipping format from the radio button options:
- 7" Record - Adds 6 oz for packaging weight
- 10" Record - Adds 8 oz for packaging weight
- 12" Record/LP - Adds 8 oz for packaging weight
- Box Set - Adds 12 oz for packaging weight
- Multiple Items - Adds 12 oz for packaging weight
Each format automatically accounts for the weight of proper mailers (like Whiplash or Bags Unlimited mailers) and protective packaging materials. You don't need to calculate this yourself — the system handles it automatically.
Step 2: Enter your item's actual weight
Use the fields to enter your item's weight. This should be the weight of just the record(s) and everything that comes with them (sleeves, inserts, booklets, etc.) — not the mailer or packaging.
Use a kitchen scale or postal scale to ensure accuracy, but here are some typical weights for reference:
- 7" singles: 3–4 oz
- 10" records: 5–6 oz
- 12" LPs: 6–8 oz
- Double LPs: 12–14 oz
How the system works
As you enter your item weight and select a format, you'll see the "Total shipping weight" update automatically at the bottom. This combines your item weight plus the packaging weight, giving you the final weight that will be used to calculate shipping rates for buyers.
For example: If you have a 12 oz double LP and select "12" Record/LP" format, the total shipping weight becomes 20 oz (12 oz item + 8 oz packaging).
Multi-item orders
When buyers purchase multiple items from you, the system intelligently calculates shipping by:
- Adding up the individual weight of each item
- Adding only the single heaviest packaging weight from all items in the order
This prevents overcharging for packaging while ensuring accurate shipping costs for combined orders.
The real-time weight calculator helps you see exactly what buyers will be charged for shipping, making the process transparent for both sellers and buyers.
Saving, editing, and managing listings
You can save as Draft if you’re not ready to go live. Drafts are only visible to you and can be edited anytime. Once all required fields are complete (and your seller account is fully set up), you can mark the listing as Active to make it available for purchase.
From your listings dashboard, you can:
- Edit or delete any listing
- Duplicate a listing to save time
- Mark listings sold (if they were sold off-platform)
- Use bulk editing tools to update prices, statuses, and more in batches
